Hello, September

It’s that time of the year again. The shops have stocked their rails full of burgundy and khaki and black, the cafés have looked their spiced syrups out from the back of the cupboard and the supermarkets have already had their Christmas selection boxes on the shelves for two months. While the weather is most definitely still screaming “summer”, the first month of autumn has arrived and people (read: the Twitterverse) are already mad for it.

It’s September already! The last time I looked it was April and I was doing my final exams, and now in the blink of an eye four months have passed and I just know I’m going to have to put my sandals away soon (*heart slowly breaks*).

This summer has been a little bit mad for me. I finished university, had my end of degree ball, went to Budapest, started a full-time job, and graduated with a 2:1 when really I was expecting a 3rd. I’ve already been working for over two months now which is ridiculous. That means I’ve done more than a quarter of my contract already! And I’ve no doubt that the next six months will pass just as quickly as the last two.

This September is the first in eighteen years that I’ve not gone back to school or university. My little sister (well, not-so-little – she turns 20 in two weeks time, a fact that is inherently wrong) went back up North yesterday to move her things into her student house ready for the new university year, which was a little strange because I’m not going anywhere this year. I don’t really know if it’s quite hit me yet, but I’m enjoying work enough to not be too bothered by it right now…and life with money is pretty nice too!

I do like autumn quite a lot. I like the colours and the earlier evenings and the excuse to put my pyjamas on when I get home from work. I’m looking toward to wearing tights with my dresses and skirts, and getting out my nice coat and boots which have been shut away for the last five or so months. But I’m also going to miss the summer, especially this one that was so excitingly significant for me!

Which is your favourite season and why? Tell me in the comments, on Twitter or on Facebook!

Yes, that bittersweet feeling. I’m a little bit tired of the heat but I would like to postpone this already-September time.

I know what you mean. It’s a little sad to see summer go! But for me at least, the change in seasons means time is passing and I have exciting things to look forward to next year!

  2. I’m a total summer girl. I already have the fear. I miss summer before it’s even over!

I have become more of a summer girl over the years, particularly owing to the fact that winter hasn’t been living up to its name for the last few years! So I’m sad to see it go. But I love wearing chunky rights and dresses and I can’t really do that during the summer. ?
